The Dynamic Web

My newest post at the ThinkerNet is about the Web is dynamic. The post focuses on the argument that the fundamental of World Wide Web is currently evolving from static to dynamic.

In my comment for the question raised by Paul Whyte, however, I emphasized that this argument of dynamic Web is not the same as the dynamic web discussed among the web navigation people. In the realm of web navigation, the property of Web dynamics is about the degree of activities that web resources are consumed by users. In the realm of web evolution, however, the dynamic Web refers to the prediction that the fundamental of basic building blocks on the Web is current evolving to engage more and more dynamic properties. Furthermore, we may have to identify these basic building blocks as dynamic components (i.e., dominated by services) in contrast to static components (i.e., dominated by data).

For who are interested in this topic and my arguments, the full article is at here.

Hello!

After pasting together a profile at InternetEvolution I went over to look at yours ... and found naught. That surprised me.

Imagine my surprise when the "obvious" pick from the google results for your name, http://www.deg.byu.edu/ding/, was likewise blank.
A print-ready page at DERI.ie looked promising, but no links. The page at STI-Innsbruck.at ... the subject matter is right, but again no coordinates. Some nice papers, but ... the collaborative web is more social in nature than this, don't you think? Likewise with three very nice papers at ZDNet, fine reading but huis clos.

I'm grateful to the interview at Talis.com ... contact!

So all of this to say hello (You sure didn't make it easy! *grin*) and to say I hope we can explore the themes that arose in "Dynamic"; the web as "brochure" works quite well, but over the years I've become less than enthralled by the way it supports discourse. (FWIW as an experiment I transformed an intense email exchange into a set of deeply threaded posts at LiveJournal ... not optimal, but easily the best functionality I've found.)

so just this for now
cheers

very well, Ben, probably you have known me better than myself now. ;-)

Anyway, I think our Web server has some problem today and thus you were not able to access my homepage. In fact, the link http://www.deg.byu.edu/ding/ should be fine and it is my formal homepage, my home on Web 1.0. :-)

Thank you for all the comments you made at Internet Evolution and I am certainly glad to explore the dynamic Web with you in the future.

cheers,

Yihong

Hello Yihong -

Alas, http://www.deg.byu.edu/ding/ is still entirely blank ... no error message, but nothing served.

In any case: I have links to your papers, the MP3, and your blog, so my plate is overflowing!

Something you said in the podcast tickled me, the DERI motto: "Make the semantic web real, so I took the liberty of writing you an email.

cheers

thanks, Ben. ;-) My homepage at http://www.deg.byu.edu/ding/ has been back.

cheers,

Yes! You're right! It is!
:-)

I look forward to a day when we might exchange email.

p.s. "usage of clean and renewable energy resources"? I've so much wanted to work with solar-powered high-effeciency LED lighting for poor rural districts ... Nepal, for example.
But "discourse-based decision support" rules my life ... HeyHo!

Yihong Ding said...

Sure, you can email me at ding@cs.byu.edu any time you want.

cheers,

Bernard (ben) Tremblay said...

Ah?! That's very kind of you ... but some confound here: I emailed you at least once, perhaps only yesterday.

I'll recheck / re-send as required.

cheers

Ah, I am sorry that I missed the letter. I rechecked and the email was not there. Please resend when you are free.

cheers,

There is a bit a humour in this: I received notification of your reply in my GMail account. Replies from blogspot are the only things that go to that account. And they go to that account only because blogspot's identity management is so ham-fisted (which, ultimately, is controlled by google programmers).

I will be resending my email to the address you provided here ... thanks.
The humour is that I had originally sent to your GMail account and you did not receive it!

huh huh ...
... resent now.

Hi ben,

Anyway, I am not sure what went wrong, but I still do not receive your email, if you had already sent. Just let you know.

Odd ... 2008 and email fails.

I send; it is received.
Others send to me; I receive it.

I have no idea.

please leave your email and I will send to you and then you reply, maybe it would be fine. Please note that I will be in travel tomorrow. So I may send the email to you a little bit later.

Hello again - that would be a kindness, please do.

That I have a number of blogs and you've comment on none, as an alternative ...
... asynchronous needs always a sync point, and I'm lacking that.

My email address is on any number of sites, as well as on the blogs linked to through the profile that's here offered.

trusting that you will do as you will

p.s. I don't accept pretexts to denigrate communications.

Take #2: how can you know about improving the web if you know naught about the data structures that are everywhere around you manifest? Theoretical imaginings are all very fine, but the actualities of the mundane is what in-form our activities.

I needed to google and hunt, while you can't bring yourself to click a link?
No no ... that's not it at all. We each extend ourselves somewhat; the democratic impulse expresses itself. Or not. As the case may be.

How are you?

HI Ben,

I was in travel yesterday. I have sent you an email to bernard.d.tremblay@gmail.com. I cannot access your email address through your Blogger profile since it is not accessible through the Firefox browser. But I get it from somewhere else.

huh huh ... in the Vajryana tradition the end of the lunar year is known as "dö season", when all sorts of things go strangely odd.

You cannot view BlogSpot Profiles?
I use Firefox ... I have never used other than Netscape and Mozilla ... I have always been able to access those Profiles.

And this after my email to both of your accounts, from two different accounts of my own, all failed.

A singularity of some sort?
:-)

In my NetVibes tab I see mail waiting for me, so I will go to that now.

Tashi Delek!
